Slip footprints

I wanted to preserve my baby daughter's footprint as a natural extension of a claywork rather than a "this is my kid's foot" stamped on a tile or plate.

So, I built this red clay pot out of coils. Then I dipped my baby daughter's feet in white clay slip and put footprints on the pot. The five dots are the tips of my fingers dipped in slip.

The pot has not been fired.

I must admit that was so broke at the time I made this piece, that everything I learned came out of whatever handbuilding and native indian technique books I could find in the public library. (I had $20 entertainment budget to last for 3 months).
